In the wake of the horrific incident that started with Jordan Jackson being told to “go back to the cotton farm” and ended with him hospitalized with post-concussion syndrome and a broken arm after being attacked and beaten, his family members are now being attacked on social media for telling their story and having a GoFundMe account.

The first slew of hateful comments came Nov. 21 on an update Cris Colbert, Jordan Jackson’s uncle and his mother Alana Jackson’s brother, posted publicly on his Facebook page. Kristi Johnson Gueho, who, according to Colbert, is a teacher at Spanish Lake Primary School where Jordan was attacked, felt the need to interject herself on an update about Jordan’s health taking a turn for the worse a few days ago.

As Colbert articulates in his comment, the GoFundMe page that he created states specifically that “[Alana Jackson] agreed to this GoFundMe with the condition that any money raised beyond the expense of this will be donated to charity. So that is what we will do and report back on how much and who it was given to.”

But that did not stop the now-former friend and colleague of Alana Jackson, who does not like that Jackson is standing up for her child and speaking out about their experiences, which she says is detrimental to the school.

One commenter, siding with Colbert, expressed that people do not always distrust those on the receiving end of the generosity of strangers via GoFundMe, so the fact that Kristin Johnson Gueto chose to distrust people she knew well and called friends seemed suspicious to her. (The other commenter she refers to, Kayte, has since deleted her comments.)

Many people stepped in to defend Colbert and the Jacksons from their detractor, among them, this woman.

Yet Gueho continued, saying an obviously racist incident was “not about race.”

Others stepped up to refute this, as well.

Colbert expressed grief at the continued situation of his family with a post about the aforementioned exchange with a different Facebook post:

To which Gueto responded yet again:

Cris Colbert took to Facebook to post Jordan’s health update, as well as to note that because of all the hostility and Jordan’s fear to return to the school, Alana Jackson will no longer teach in this community, and her children will no longer attend school there. She has a master’s in Educational Leadership and has won awards for her teaching, so she plans to home school her children for the foreseeable future.
