On Thursday night, Boo 2! A Madea Halloween pulled in $760,000 at the Thursday night preview release to 2,000 theaters.
To compare, the first installment pulled in $855,000 for its Thursday previews release last year before it went on to beat out Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and ultimately made $28.5 million.
The sequel will be expanding to 2,388 theaters this weekend, so we’ll have to see if Tyler Perry‘s comedy can pull out a repeat performance. The movie is up against the Number 1 movie, Blade Runner 2049, as well as the horror movie Happy Death Day, which made $1.12 million on Thursday night alone.
