Kellyanne Conway Denies Tweeting ‘Love You Back’ to White Nationalist

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway is in hot water yet again after showing a little Valentine’s Day love to a white nationalist via Twitter on Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Earlier that day, Conway appeared on NBC’s “Today” show and dodged host Matt Lauer’s questions surrounding the sudden resignation of ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn. Conway offered conflicting details on the matter, after which Lauer said her responses made “no sense.”

In her defense, the White House adviser later tweeted that she “serves at the pleasure” of President Donald Trump and that “his message is my message.”

“[Trump’s] goals are my goals,” Conway continued. “Uninformed chatter doesn’t matter.”

That’s when Twitter user Lib Hypocrisy tweeted Conway, lauding her “strength & resiliency in face of vile hatred … of the unhinged Left.” The user praised the White House counselor as a daily inspiration and concluded the tweet with a simple, “Love you.”

It should be noted that Lib Hypocrisy’s Twitter profile features an image of Pepe the Frog, a commonly used symbol among members of the alt-right/white nationalist movement. Her bio also lists the hashtags #WhiteIdentity, #Nationalist and #GeertWilders, a reference to the anti-Muslim Dutch politician, according to Huffington Post.

Conway retweeted the white nationalist’s affectionate tweet and responded, “Love you back.” She even took the time to wish her “hapless haters” a Happy Valentine’s Day.

After Buzzfeed pointed out her major faux pas, however, Conway deleted the tweet and blamed it on someone else, claiming she had no idea “who had access to my account.” Moreover, the White House counselor asserted she’d never heard of Lib Hypocrisy.

“That’s terrible,” Conway said. “I denounce whoever it is. Everybody makes mistakes.”

Despite tying to save face by removing the tweet, the damage had already been done as fellow Twitter users already screenshot Conway’s correspondence with the white nationalist.

The social media blunder put the cherry on top of an eventful 26 days since Trump and his administration took the White House. Just last week, Conway was blasted for endorsing Ivanka Trump’s product line during a live interview. Critics argued that her entreaty to viewers to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff” was a clear violation of the Government Code of Ethics.

Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Conway had been “counseled” for her behavior, but the Office of Government Ethics has since recommended that she be investigated, adding that “disciplinary action is warranted.”
