Rapper Fat Joe thinks R&B singer/songwriter Eric Benét has it all wrong when it comes to his thoughts about the influence of rap music and its superstars.

Monday, Benét shared a post with his followers on Instagram that insinuates uber successful rappers are basically glorifying the same ideals as white supremacy.

“Rap Artists if all you rap about is: Killing black people, Degrading Black women, Abusing drugs, Materialization, Living a Low Life – You are not a artist. You are a black face for white supremacy, you are being used to help DESTROY your own people,” the strongly worded meme said.

And underneath that, Benét wrote the caption, “Inconvenient truth to some of the rich and famous.”

Later that same day, TMZ caught up with Bronx born MC Fat Joe in Beverly Hills, where he was asked to comment on the singer’s comments.

Not surprisingly, Joe vehemently disagreed, and believes rap music is just music and a valid form of art and expression that shouldn’t be judged so harshly, even when it’s used to shed a realistic light on street culture.

“Never go Eric Benét”

Some have wondered if Benét still has any harsh feelings towards Jay Z for using him as a cautionary example in his song Kill Jay Z.

In the track from his latest solo album 4:44 Hov rapped:

“You almost went Eric Benét/Let the baddest girl in the world get away/I don’t even know what else to say/Nigga, never go Eric Benét”

The lyric is a not-so-subtle reference to Benét’s marriage to Halle Berry back in the early 2000s. The couple split less than three years after they tied the knot due to alleged cheating on Benét part. The singer later confessed to suffering from a sex addict and even went to rehab to resolve his issues. Ever since his breakup with Berry, Benét has become a punchline for ruined relationships, especially when they involve beautiful women.

Jay was clearly stating that he didn’t want to follow in the same footsteps of failure, even though now we all know he came eerily close to doing the same thing with Beyonce.
