The blazing heat turned an afternoon concert into a summer bake-off, amplifying the crowd’s frustration as they wondered why the show hadn’t started.  
Superstar soul singer James Brown was running at least an hour late for his concert. Fed up fans began marching toward the gate thinking, “He’s not coming. We want our money back,” 84-year-old Leroy Jubilee recalled of the 1950s scene.
