National Security Expert Warns U.S. Vulnerability Growing After Trump’s Iran Strikes – BlackPressUSA

BLACKPRESSUSA NEWSWIRE — With approximately 40,000 U.S. troops in the region, Castleberry-Hernandez stressed that their safety is paramount. But she warned that domestic security is also at risk, recalling how past conflicts in the Middle East have sparked terror attacks on American soil, such as those in San Bernardino and Orlando.

As global tensions spike following President Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and Tehran’s retaliation with missile launches at U.S. bases in Iraq and Qatar, national security and foreign policy expert Asha Castleberry-Hernandez warned that the United States is dangerously close to a full-blown war.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Black Press USA’s Let It Be Known, Castleberry-Hernandez, a former senior official in the Biden administration’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and an Iraq War veteran, called the situation “deeply concerning,” especially given what she described as escalating international alignment behind Iran and widespread inexperience in key U.S. national security positions.
“My reaction was quite concerning with regards to potential escalatory behavior,” Castleberry-Hernandez said. “Many Americans were not supportive of strikes in Iran because they want to avoid an escalatory war or just U.S. involvement overall.”
Last week, B-52 bombers carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. The Department of Defense claims those sites were eradicated. In response, Iran launched missiles targeting U.S. military installations in Qatar and Iraq. While U.S. forces successfully intercepted the missiles, Castleberry-Hernandez cautioned that the conflict is intensifying quickly and diplomatically difficult to contain.
“If we had just stayed in the Iran nuclear deal, which President Obama started, this could have been avoided,” she said. “The Iran nuclear deal worked.”
She blamed the Trump administration for withdrawing from the agreement, which she said led to the loss of leverage with Iranian leadership. “We transitioned from diplomacy to defense,” she said, noting that Iran now has greater backing from nations like China, Russia, and North Korea.
Castleberry-Hernandez, author of the memoir, “Why National Security Matters,” noted that under the U.S. Constitution, the commander-in-chief has the latitude to conduct such airstrikes. But she questioned whether Trump’s actions—reportedly carried out without broad consultation with his national security team—violate the constitutional balance between the executive and legislative branches.
“This is why it matters who we put in the Oval Office,” she said. “You’re giving them access to trade policy, nuclear codes, and how they manage the troops.”
Castleberry-Hernandez said Vice President Kamala Harris’s previous warning that a Trump presidency could lead to war was not alarmist. She pointed to the growing signs of Iranian aggression even before Trump took office and said U.S. intelligence had long indicated that Iran was close to building a nuclear bomb.
“Now that Trump is in, he’s going to do anything he can to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear state. And this is what you’re seeing play out right now,” she said.
Asked how close the U.S. is to war, Castleberry-Hernandez said developments are moving by the hour. “President Trump is demanding a ceasefire, but let’s see if Iran will come to the table,” she said. “Iran knows the U.S. has an asymmetric operational advantage, and that may eventually bring them to negotiate.”
Castleberry-Hernandez rejected claims that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had manipulated Trump into the strikes but confirmed that Israeli intelligence strongly influenced the decision. “Israel had legitimate concerns and shared them. President Trump, lacking the political capital but influenced by Israel, decided to move forward,” she said.
With approximately 40,000 U.S. troops in the region, Castleberry-Hernandez stressed that their safety is paramount. But she warned that domestic security is also at risk, recalling how past conflicts in the Middle East have sparked terror attacks on American soil, such as those in San Bernardino and Orlando.
“We’ve already seen violence near the Israeli embassy and in Colorado. These conflicts fuel both anti-Semitism and Islamophobia here at home,” she said, adding that cities like New York have ramped up security in response.
She also warned of cyber threats and information warfare, especially with Iran’s close ties to Russia. “They’re very capable in conducting cyberattacks and manipulating online disinformation to destabilize us,” she said.
Castleberry-Hernandez raised concerns about the economic fallout, particularly in the oil and global markets. “Engaging Iran disrupts the global energy market. Gas prices and stock fluctuations could spike, especially if this conflict drags on.”
She also confirmed reports that multiple Republican lawmakers purchased “war stocks” just hours before the strikes. “I’m pretty sure those that were trading were fully aware of what was going to happen,” she said.
As questions swirl about Trump’s decision-making and reports suggest that many national security officials were shut out of the process, Castleberry-Hernandez said her book was meant to educate Americans about why qualified leadership is essential.
“I wrote ‘Why National Security Matters’ because I saw a growing rejection of global engagement,” she said. “But we’re more interconnected than ever—through cyber threats, pandemics, and climate change.”
She criticized the current administration’s staffing of key security posts with inexperienced personnel, including a 22-year-old former grocery clerk now reportedly working in Homeland Security.
“It’s already playing out. These inexperienced officials are more prone to rubber-stamp Trump’s decisions. Compared to his first administration, this is far more dangerous,” she said.
Asked if the U.S. is more vulnerable than ever, Castleberry-Hernandez replied, “We are. Not just because of inexperience, but because the world has learned how not to work with us anymore. Our troops, our economy, our national security institutions—everything is at risk.”
She called on the American people to act. “We don’t have the House or Senate to provide real checks. It has to come from the people—mobilize and engage with your elected officials. The American people can make a difference working together right now,” she said.

The prosecution has concluded its case against Sean “Diddy” Combs, resting Tuesday following six weeks of harrowing and often graphic testimony. A total of 34 witnesses were called to the stand, with the most notable being Combs’ former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, whose four-day testimony painted a disturbing picture of abuse, control, and coerced sexual acts.
Ventura, currently pregnant, recounted being forced into drug-fueled sex acts with male escorts—what Combs reportedly referred to as “freak offs.” She told jurors she never wanted to participate but felt she had no choice.
Rapper Scott Mescudi, known to fans as Kid Cudi, testified about his own relationship with Ventura and the abusive dynamic he observed between her and Combs. His account added weight to Ventura’s claims of manipulation and violence.
The prosecution also relied on testimony from two other women who had relationships with Combs—one using the pseudonym “Mia,” a former assistant, and another identified only as “Jane.” Both offered stark, first-hand accounts of the culture Combs allegedly fostered behind closed doors.
Mia testified that Combs sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions and that she frequently cleaned up after the couple’s “hotel nights.” She also recalled witnessing Combs physically lash out at Ventura.
Jane described being expected to engage in sex acts with escorts to satisfy Combs. She described a lifestyle where his constant sexual demands left her “sore, tired, exhausted, and overwhelmed.”
With the prosecution’s case complete, the defense promptly filed a Rule 29 motion for judgment of acquittal on counts one through five, including the racketeering charge under the RICO statute. Defense attorney Alexandra Shapiro argued that prosecutors had failed to prove Combs engaged in racketeering or that there was any conspiracy.
“There is no enterprise,” Shapiro told the court. “This was Combs engaging in sex acts in his time with his girlfriends.”
She challenged the claim that staff members—such as bodyguards and senior aides—were complicit in facilitating the alleged criminal behavior. “They did errands and made travel arrangements, but they did not have anything to do with what went on with Combs and his girlfriends in the hotel room,” Shapiro said. She added that while employees may have seen baby oil, Astro glide, alcohol, and drugs, they weren’t participants in any conspiracy.
Shapiro also pointed to text messages where Combs allegedly instructed aides to keep details from one another. In one message, he wrote that “KK can’t know about the FO,” referring to freak‑offs and his chief of staff, Kristina Khorram.
According to the defense, Khorram and others attempted to help Ventura when they became aware of violence, and there’s no evidence any of them believed the women were being coerced.
In a brief but poignant moment outside the jury’s presence, Combs announced he would not testify in his own defense. Dressed in a brown sweater and white collared shirt, he addressed Judge Arun Subramanian directly. When the judge asked how he was doing, Combs replied, “I’m doing great; how are you, your honor?” and added appreciatively, “I wanted to tell you, thank you, you’re doing an excellent job.”
Combs told the court he had discussed his decision “thoroughly” with his lawyers and confirmed, “That is solely my decision,” leaning forward to speak into the microphone. He clarified that the choice was made in consultation with counsel.
Closing arguments are scheduled for Thursday, and the jury is expected to receive the case no later than Friday.
BLACKPRESSUSA NEWSWIRE — Bryant, the Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in metro Atlanta, launched a 40-day fast—aligned with Lent—as an economic protest against Target after the company announced in January it would end its DEI initiatives and cancel a $2 billion pledge it made in 2020 to support Black-owned businesses following the murder of George Floyd. “After the murder of George Floyd, [Target] made a $2 billion commitment to invest in Black businesses,” Bryant said during an earlier appearance on the Black Press’ Let It Be Known news program. “That commitment was due in December 2025. When they pulled out of the DEI agreement in January, they also canceled that $2 billion commitment.”

At the annual convention of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), held under the theme “The Black Press: Engaging Black America—Empowerment, Justice and Prosperity,” Rev. Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant will receive the NNPA’s prestigious 2025 Newsmaker of the Year Award. Bryant will be honored during a ceremony on June 27 where the organization will recognize Bryant’s bold leadership in confronting corporate America’s retreat from diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), most notably through his ongoing boycott of Target.
The NNPA is the trade association representing more than 200 African American-owned newspapers and media companies that comprise the 198-year-old Black Press of America.
Bryant, the Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in metro Atlanta, launched a 40-day fast—aligned with Lent—as an economic protest against Target after the company announced in January it would end its DEI initiatives and cancel a $2 billion pledge it made in 2020 to support Black-owned businesses following the murder of George Floyd.
Target has told Black Press USA that it has exceeded its commitments made after Floyd’s death.
However, Bryant cited the $12 million spent daily by Black consumers at Target as a driving reason to focus the protest on the retailer. Within just one week of launching the petition at targetfast.org, 50,000 people had signed on. “This is just phase one,” he said. “Amazon and others come right after. America has shown us time and time again: if it doesn’t make dollars, it doesn’t make sense.”
Beyond the restoration of DEI programs, Bryant has called on Target to invest $250 million in Black-owned banks to help scale Black businesses and to partner with HBCUs located near the company’s 10 distribution centers. “White women are the number one beneficiaries of DEI,” he said. “What I am asking for is a quarter of a billion dollars to be invested in Black banks so that our Black businesses can scale.”
The NNPA, in response to widespread corporate rollbacks, also launched a national public education and selective buying campaign.
“We are the trusted voice of Black America, and we will not be silent or nonresponsive to the rapid rise of renewed Jim Crow racist policies in corporate America,” said NNPA Chairman Bobby R. Henry Sr.
“Black Americans spend $2 trillion annually,” said NNPA President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. “We must evaluate and realign to question why we continue to spend our money with companies that do not respect us.”
Bryant has also partnered with Ron Busby, President and CEO of the U.S. Black Chambers, to provide consumers with a directory of over 300,000 Black-owned businesses. “You can’t tell people what not to do without showing them what to do,” Bryant said. “If you’re not going to Target or Walmart but need essentials like toilet paper, soap, or detergent, we’ll show you where to get them and reinvest in Black businesses.”
He said the impact has proved major. “Since Black people have been boycotting Target, the stock has dropped by $11. Stockholders are now suing Target because of the adverse impact this boycott has had on their stock,” Bryant proclaimed.
He also addressed Target’s recent $300,000 agreement with the National Baptist Convention. During a sermon, he accused the convention of allowing the company to sidestep accountability. “You thought you were going to go around me and go to the National Baptist Convention and sell out for $300,000?” Bryant demanded. “Are you crazy to think that we gonna’ sell out for chump change? You must not know who we are!”
Rev. Boise Kimber, president of the National Baptist Convention, said the denomination is working on a three-year plan with Target that “will be very beneficial to the Black community.”
Bryant has spent decades as a leading voice for justice. From his early work as National Youth and College Director of the NAACP, where he mobilized over 70,000 young people in nonviolent campaigns, to founding Empowerment Temple AME Church in Baltimore—once the fastest-growing church in the AME denomination—to now leading New Birth, supporters said Bryant has never wavered in his commitment to mobilizing faith, economic power, and activism.
A Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and two-time Grammy Award winner, Bryant has established ministries that combat injustice, foster entrepreneurship, and empower economically disadvantaged individuals. He rose from earning a GED to receiving a Ph.D., reaching across generations and building bridges between the Civil Rights era and today’s movements.
Chavis said Bryant’s award at this year’s NNPA convention aligns directly with the event’s theme.
“Dr. Bryant has shown that prophetic voices still matter in the marketplace,” Chavis affirmed. “And the Black Press will always amplify those voices who fight for empowerment, justice, and prosperity.”

The U.S. House killed an effort by Texas Democrat Al Green to impeach President Donald Trump over his decision to bomb Iran without congressional authority.
The House voted 344-79 to table Rep. Green’s impeachment resolution. The 344 votes against the impeachment resolution included 128 Democrats.
On Saturday, June 21, President Trump ordered airstrikes on what The White House stated were nuclear sites in Iran. Late on June 23, President Trump called for a ceasefire. Congress returned to session on June 23rd.
“I rise today because our country is nearing a moment of decision,” Rep. Green said as he began his remarks. “I rise because we are at the intersection of democracy and autocracy,” he continued.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress the sole power to declare war. Only Congress can formally authorize the U.S. to be in a state of war with another country. On Saturday night, President Trump acted with no congressional authority. Several members, including members of the Trump Administration’s national security team, reportedly were unaware that there would be an attack by U.S. armed forces on Iran.
Rep. Green moved forward with his resolution on the House cliff on June 24.
“In his conduct of the office of President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, in violation of his constitutional oath faithfully to execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, abused the powers of the presidency when he disregarded the doctrine of separation of powers by usurping Congress’s power to declare war and ordered the United States military to bomb another country without the constitutionally mandated congressional authorization or notice to Congress — cognizant of the fact that should another country’s military bomb a facility within the United States of America, it would be a de facto declaration of war against the United States of America,” Rep. Green’s impeachment resolution reads.
This morning, President Trump told reporters that he was “not happy” with Israel.
“We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing,” the President said before walking to Marine One. Though the conflict appears to be winding down. Some Democrats in Congress, including Rep. Green, continue to attempt to hold the President accountable.

President Donald Trump dropped a publicly-televised F-bomb over the short-lived cease-fire deal between Israel and Iran. Last night, Iran fired back at Israel, dismissing what Trump proudly announced earlier in the day.
Trump’s frustration was evident with his use of the expletive as he spoke to reporters on his way to the Netherlands for the NATO summit. An animated Trump said, “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f–k they’re doing!” He angrily stated that both countries had violated the peace deal.
Rachel Scott of ABC News asked the president, “Is Iran still committed to peace?” Trump replied, “Israel, as soon as we made the deal, they came out and they dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I have never seen before. The biggest load we’ve seen. I am not happy with Israel… I am not happy with Iran either.
The collapse of the ceasefire and advancement of aggression and hostilities between the two warring nations now go far beyond what President Trump termed a “12-day war.” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, “We’ll solve a new set of problems.”
While in the Netherlands, Trump is expected to ask NATO members for spending commitments, pushing the group’s European members to pay more into the organization that he once claimed was “broke.”
The focus of NATO is to ensure the freedom and security of its members through political and military means. NATO targets include weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, and cyberattacks.
The meeting in The Hague with 32 world leaders will be the president’s first meeting with that number of U.S. allies since his return to the White House in January.

Democratic Texas Congressman Al Green is filing Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump. Green, who has filed the Articles three times during Trump’s first term, seeks to have Trump impeached with the ultimate goal of removal from office.
House Resolution 537 details Green’s allegations of an “abuse of power” as “President Trump took America to war without consulting with the Congress of America.”
During this morning’s speeches on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, Green alleged that President Trump has committed an “impeachable act with the use of authoritarian powers to declare war.”
Once this Resolution is introduced, a vote could occur within days.
Green initiated impeachment three times during President Trump’s first term. Today’s attempt takes place only five months into Trump’s second term.
Green emoted during a phone conversation with Black Press USA this morning, “This is a time of decision!” He emphasized, “We’re at the crossroads of Democracy and autocracy.” The Senior Texas lawmaker details, “Where we [are] now is in trust of a person who has instigated an assault on the Capitol, who has denied due process,” and has the “ultimate power of determining whether he will decide when more than 300 million people will go to war. “
Trump, who has been impeached twice but never convicted of removal, has seen his approval ratings slip in recent polls. The iPsos/ Reuters poll finds that 57% of Americans disapprove of the president.
Green, a former Judge turned statesman, told this reporter, “If people can accept authoritarianism, then that’s a decision they make. I choose not to.”
Green needs most of the 435 House members to vote for his impeachment attempts. He hopes a Senate conviction will remove President Trump from office this time.
Green recalls that each time he has introduced articles of impeachment, they have been tabled. As for this new impeachment attempt, “I don’t believe that this will be an exception. I will not vote to table it.”
BLACKPRESSUSA NEWSWIRE — “In the litany of unconstitutional acts committed by this administration, Donald Trump has perhaps committed his most dangerous violation by illegally declaring war on Iran. It is both urgent and vital that Congress act to impeach and remove him from office, and I am grateful, as usual, that Rep. Green is leading without hesitation to defend the Constitution,” stated Jessica Denson, Founder of 14thNow and the Removal Coalition.

(Washington, DC)—On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Congressman Al Green, together with Free Speech for People and 14thNow, released statements regarding his article of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump in response to significant concerns over his latest abuse of presidential powers. This article of impeachment identifies a troubling pattern of behavior, including the unlawful directing of military actions without the mandated authorization from Congress. President Trump has not only violated his oath of office, he has also disregarded the separation of powers necessary to maintain the independence of our three branches of government. His actions represent an abuse of power and became a threat to American democracy after he declared war without Congressional authorization. A copy of the article of impeachment is accessible by clicking here.
John Bonifaz, constitutional attorney and President of Free Speech for People, a national public interest organization which is leading the impeachment campaign at impeachtrumpagain.org, with more than 700,000 people across the country having now joined the campaign, stated: “Donald Trump is not a king. He does not have the power to take the nation into war. The Framers were clear that only Congress would have the power to start a war against another country. In launching our nation into an illegal and unconstitutional war against Iran, in direct violation of the War Powers Clause of the Constitution, Trump has committed a grave abuse of power for which he must be immediately impeached and removed from public office. We commend Congressman Al Green for his leadership in introducing his new article of impeachment against this lawless president, and we urge all Members of Congress to abide by their oath to protect and defend the Constitution by supporting this article.”
“In the litany of unconstitutional acts committed by this administration, Donald Trump has perhaps committed his most dangerous violation by illegally declaring war on Iran. It is both urgent and vital that Congress act to impeach and remove him from office, and I am grateful, as usual, that Rep. Green is leading without hesitation to defend the Constitution,” stated Jessica Denson, Founder of 14thNow and the Removal Coalition.
Congressman Green deserves applause for placing impeachment on the table in response to President Donald Trump’s flagrantly unconstitutional attack against Iran without a congressional declaration of war as mandated by Article I, section 8, clause
Congressman Al Green stated, “Today, I am introducing an article of impeachment with the help of grassroots freedom fighters, to impeach and remove President Donald J. Trump from office to protect American democracy from entrenching authoritarianism. I did not come to Congress to be a bystander while a president abuses power and devolves American democracy into authoritarianism with himself as an authoritarian president. President Trump’s unauthorized bombing of Iran constitutes a de facto declaration of war. No president has the right to drag this nation into war without the authorization of the people’s representatives. His authoritarian actions are a warning sign we cannot ignore, making him a threat to American democracy; we must uphold and protect our Constitution from being dismantled by an authoritarian president who seeks unchecked power.”
