NC SBI investigating case involving Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People – WRAL.com

WRAL Investigates has learned the State Bureau of Investigation has an ongoing case involving the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People.
A spokesperson for the SBI said it is specifically the financial crimes unit that is investigating this case.
The SBI also said it got involved at the request of Durham’s District Attorney. WRAL Investigates reached out to Durham District Attorney Satana Deberry about that request, but we have not heard back.
Floyd McKissick Jr. took over as chair of the organization in January.
WRAL Investigates reached out to McKissick about the investigation, and in a statement, he said:
“We are optimistic that any person or persons that engaged in criminal wrongdoing will be held accountable, but we cannot discuss it any further because of an ongoing investigation, which we initiated, based upon the findings in a report prepared by a CPA.”
The Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People was established nearly 90 years ago.
Promoting the welfare of Black people, eliminating racial discrimination, and partnering with other groups to improve the Black community are some of the goals in its mission statement on its website.
