PASCO, Wash. – The city of Pasco has officially declared February 2025 as Black History Month.
During the February 18 city council meeting, Mayor Pete Serrano made the proclamation.
Irving Brown Sr., representing the NAACP Tri-Cities, was present to receive the proclamation. Community members and leaders from the Big Bro Joe Foundation and the Miss Juneteenth Pageant also attended the meeting.
Brown expressed gratitude for the city’s recognition. “This proclamation stands as more than just words. It’s a reflection, a reaffirmation, excuse me, of Pasco dedication to fostering a community that values inclusion, justice and historical truth,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of the proclamation, stating it serves as a reminder of the city’s commitment to equity and representation. “Your leadership and ensuring that black history is celebrated and honored is a testament to your commitment to equity and representation of all residents,” Brown added.
The event highlighted Pasco’s ongoing dedication to celebrating and honoring Black history within the community.
The Tri-Cities Chapter for the NAACP is a group for grassroots activism civil and social justice. According to their Website, “NAACP Tri-Cities Washington is a nonprofit organization that strives to create a community where everyone thrives. Our mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. ”
