Roseanne Barr returned to Twitter to offer up an excuse for her racist tweets that got her hit ABC show cancelled yesterday. Barr said she went on a drug induced Ambien sleep-aid tirade.

“It was 2 in the morning and I was ambien-tweeting-it was memorial day too-i went 2 far & do not want it defended-it was egregious Indefensible,” she wrote. “I made a mistake I wish I hadn’t but… don’t defend it please. ty.”

After the fallout, for firing off a racist tweet suggesting that former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett is an ape, Barr cautioned her supporters not to start protesting in her defense.

Some of her MAGA fans vowed to come to her defense with the network.

But Barr tweeted, “Please don’t start all of that boycott abc stuff-I’m not a censor and they have the right to do what they wish. It’ all ok. thanks tho guys!”

She added, “hey guys, don’t defend me, it’s sweet of you 2 try, but…losing my show is 0 compared 2 being labelled [sic] a racist over one tweet-that I regret even more.”

Yesterday ABC acted swiftly pulling the plug on Roseanne.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

Valerie Jarrett spoke out as well.

Valerie Jarrett spoke about the tweets directed at her by Roseanne Barr during an appearance on an MSNBC town hall on Tuesday.

“I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment,” Jarrett said “I’m fine. I’m worried about all the people out there who don’t have a circle of friends and followers who come right to their defense–the person who’s walking down the street minding their own business and they see somebody cling to their purse or walk across the street. Or every black parent I know who has a boy who has to sit down and have a conversation, ‘the talk’ as we call it. Those ordinary examples of racism that happen every single day.”

Roseanne Barr also tried to excuse her tweets by saying she thought Valerie Jarrett was white.

Roseanne tweeted early on Wednesday morning ‘I mistakenly thought she [Jarrett] was white’ and ‘I honestly thought she was Jewish and Persian’.

Jarrett was born in Iran to African-American parents and her great-grandfather was the first credited African American architect.
